London: Actor Ben Stiller will reportedly direct and star in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", a remake of the 1947 movie that starred Danny Kaye.
The movie is based on a short story of the same name written by James Thurber and first published in 1939 in The New Yorker magazine, contactmusic.com reported.
The script will be written by Steve Conrad, best known for "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "The Weatherman". Shooting is due to commence next January.
"Secret Life of Walter Mitty" tells the story of Mr. Mitty, a hapless book editor who messes up every opportunity he gets. Picked on by everyone from his idea-stealing boss to his overbearing mother, Walter handles the doldrums of his everyday existence by leading an alternate fantasy life, where he imagines himself getting involved in all sorts of exciting adventures.
Stiller has previously directed films like "Tropic Thunder", "Zoolander", "The Cable Guy" and "Reality Bites".
