Mumbai: If you are a B-school student, get ready for some stock trading practical along with regular lectures. Leading B-schools are lining up stock trading as a part of their curriculum.

In an era of extremely volatile markets, B-schools are taking a leap to teach students the art of trading. Trading stocks, commodities, F&O and mutual funds at near live-time prices through online simulators may soon be a part of the daily class.

IIM Ahmedabad has already started training students practically. Other B-schools like S P Jain, Welingkar, IIPM, and universities like Bombay and Delhi plan to follow suit soon.

IIPM student Sagar Goel says, “We'll get a feel of how market works, how it's moving, understanding the markets and then actually investing in the markets and getting returns out of it.”

“To be an amateur investor, it involves a great amount of risk. Such simulators will help me become from an amateur investor to an expert investor,” says another student of IIPM Arnav Roy.

Through these online simulators, students will trade on mock money and for every buy and sell order they place a reason will be a mandatory function, for professors to analyze their decisions.

Some B-schools are also tying up with such software providers to judge students for their portfolio management capabilities.

CEO of www.tradecracker.com Vaibhav Morarka says, “When students start investing, they may make wrong decisions because the decisions are not made so much on information but may be based on tips. Shouldn't there be an outlet they should be practicing on? A person must know his risk, benefits and features of the financial instrument they are investing in.”

Stock markets are increasingly catching the attention of today's youth. With stock market simulators, students can practice trading without any real money involved.

And as students of today may be better investors of tomorrow, it may well be worth their while to master the markets without risking their money.
