Mumbai: What's the most metrosexual thing about the new lean and mean James Bond?
Well, that he wears trunks from La Perla, the luxury lingerie brand from Italy, which plans to open four standalone stores in India in the next five years, each store of around 1,000 sq ft.
"We are also targeting the wedding business. It is a huge opportunity. After all what is better for a bride than to have a beautiful lingerie set on her first night," says Chief Representative (Asia), Gruppo La Perla, Andrea Bonardi.
The Italian brand that has been brought to India by the Murjani family – which also has Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci and Jimmy Choo as part of their India portfolio – is looking to raise a fourth of its annual 200 million-euro revenue from Asia, opening 15 stores in the region in the next decade.
"We would expect the brand to start making profits soon," says Managing Director, Brand Marketing India, Vijay Murjani.
La Perla lingerie could easily cost Rs 10,000 a piece and so, the brand is looking to rope in some Bollywood actors to endorse the product.
"Could be in the future. Why not," says Bonardi.
Well, if nothing else, next time you see Mallika Sherwat perhaps you will be able to guess some of her innermost secrets.
