New Delhi: As the nation gets into the festive spirit, security agencies across the country are on an all time high.
Heavy security, metal detactors, thorough frisking and restrictions on movement - that's the scene during Durga puja celebrations in Assam this year.
The Government is taking no chance, especially after talks with the terrorist group, ULFA, failed and help for the police is coming from some unexpected quarters.
Says a Durga Puja volunteer, Gautam Das, "We have made all arrangements to control the crowd inside and outside the pandal (tent). We are taking all possible precautions."
But Assam is not the only place where security has been increased.
The national Capital, Delhi, which saw blasts just before the festival of Diwali last year is also taking no chances.
All guest houses, hotels, public places, railway stations, airports and bus terminals are being monitored closely.
Puja committees have been briefed about security too.
Says Joint Commissioner, Special Cell, Karnal Singh, "There have been checks made at various places in Delhi. The checkings are done by Central teams as well as the district police stations. The drive for tenant verification is on. We are also monitoring other drives done by various units."
Meanwhile, in Jammu, about 200 additional jawans of CRPF have been deployed along with dog squads to manage the huge inflow of devotees.
In Kolkata, more than nine thousand police personnel are keeping a strict vigil and Mumbai too remains on on guard, more so after the 7/11 and Malegaon blasts.
