New Delhi: Twenty-year-old Irfan Ali is an undergraduate. Though he wants to go abroad for higher studies, he has several misgivings about the whole idea.
After the recent detention of the 12 Indians in Amsterdam on the basis of suspicion, students travelling abroad are now a little scared. "We can't think of flying because the heightened security," says Irfan Ali.
Like Irfan, many others are worried about the dos and don'ts of air travel. However, experts are trying to allay these fears.
"Do not panic. If you have your papers ready and follow security instructions, there should be no problems at all," assures Tim Gore, First Secretary of Education at British Council.
There is an adage - lesser the baggage, easier the journey. But what do you do if you are going abroad for further studies?
President of Stic Tours and Travels, Subash Goel, has a piece of advice: "Send your books by registered post. It works out cheaper than unaccompanied baggage. But do remember to insure them."
However, as the strict vigilance at the airports continue, it will be a while before the fears of Indians travelling abroad can be grounded.
