Lucknow: In a blatant show of sycophancy, Uttar Pradesh Police sent four minors to jail for allegedly throwing colour on Chief Minister Mayawati's poster during Holi.

UP Police charged the four boys with 'destruction of public property’ after they threw colour on the poster while playing Holi.

The four of them are now lodged in juvenile jail and will have to appear for their class 12 board exams from within the jail.

"The children are under tremendous pressure. They are unable to study. They have been crying," said father of one of the boys Balweer Singh.

"It is very difficult for the boys to score even 40-45 per cent during these exams," said father of another boy KK Tewari.

School authorities say the four children have been framed by police in an act of vengeance against the school which refused admission to a Uttar Pradesh Police SHO's relative earlier.

But the lawyer for the children disagrees with the police charges that the boys tore the poster

"The children and their guardians have told me that they were going out to get medicine for someone who fell ill when they were nabbed by the police," said lawyer Jitendra Srivastava.

The boys had secured admission in a prestigious school after cracking a tough government exam.

But now they are forced to write the forthcoming boards examination from behind the bars.
