It's official now, men gab as much as women do

New York:Are women really more talkative than men? This is what researchers have proven wrong. This new, surprising study has shown that men are equally talkative and they have an equal gift of the gab as women do.

The study, published on Thursday in the journal Science, proves that men gab just as much as women do.

Psychology professor Ma Tee Us Mell at the University of Arizona says, almost 400 male and female college students wore a voice recorder that sampled sound for several days, picking up casual conversation.

The result: this new study titled 'Are Women Really More Talkative Than Men?'

When researchers extrapolated the number of words spoken per day it was almost the same for men and women. The number of words was 16,000.

Men spoke about 500 words a day less, but the researchers called that statistically insignificant.

Out of the samples, one of the most talkative persons was a male who used 47, 000 a day, ridding people of the notion that men only used their mouths to eat, drink and talk to the TV.

The notion of the female chatterbox is a longstanding one, but the idea got some additional scientific validation in 2006 with a book titled The Female Brain quoted statistics showing women spoke 20,000 words versus a mere 7,000 words that men spoke. Author Louann Brizendine now claims that her numbers were not based on any reliable data.

Despite most people having no trust in this new study, women now have statistical data to call a bluff on the age-old myth of women talking more than men.
