New Delhi: The battle lines are drawn between the Congress and RSS, a day after former RSS chief KS Sudarshan made disparaging remarks against Sonia Gandhi.

Thousands of angry Congress workers protested outside the RSS headquarters at Jhandewalan in New Delhi on Friday and burnt effigies of Sudarshan.

Delhi Police had blocked the roads leading to the RSS headquarters to make sure that the Congress workers did not reach the building. Massive security arrangements had been made and water cannons were used to disperse the mob after they tried to break the security cordon.

The activists wanted an apology from the former Sudarshan for calling Sonia a CIA agent. The Congress has planned protests across the country against Sudarshan's remarks even as the RSS has already disassociated itself from his remarks.

RSS leader Manmohan Vaidya issued a statement on Monday saying his organisation disagreed entirely with Sudarshan's views.

Sudarshan had called Sonia a CIA agent and also accused her of plotting the assassinations of her husband and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi.
