New Delhi: The atmosphere surrounding Quallis tomb next to the Qutab Minar is mystic, so when the Sabri brothers from Pakistan took stage to warm the audience through their renditions of the Sufi kalam, it only got more spiritual and became a mehfil!
While the Sabris' now consist of the young second generation, the feeling of communal harmony and love that comes out of their music is the same as it was in their elder brother Ghulam Farid Sabri's time, who founded the Sabri Brothers group in 1956.
Then to keep the spirit of tolerance going, came the classic's from Punjab — the Wadali Brothers. Puran Chand Wadali and Pyare Lal Wadali had a confidence that took over the audience as they mezmerised them with lyrics that spoke of how God is one.
It was a night of Sufi in an atmosphere that knew it only too well. A real warmer for all who had braved the now over-extended nip the air.
