New Delhi: At least three people were killed and six injured on Tuesday in a suicide blast near a stadium in northwestern Pakistan's city of Peshawar, television news channels reported.
The blast took place outside Qayyum stadium of Peshawar, capital city of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), when the concluding ceremony of an inter-provincial games was underway, sources said.
"At least 20,000 people were inside the stadium when the blast took place. Five or six people have been injured and two of them are in critical condition," an eyewitness said.
Initial reports suggest that the suicide bomber blew himself when he was stopped at the security gate.
There has been increasing violence in the region, especially around the Bajaur agency where Pakistani forces are carrying out operations against the Taliban.
Three bodies have been recovered, said Geo TV channel. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
