New Delhi: Sunil Kumar, the man who tried to throw his shoe at Congress spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi, is not an RSS member as alleged by the Congress.
An unknown man catapulted into the nation's consciousness within seconds. But who exactly is Sunil Kumar? And what pushed him to attack Congressman Janardhan Dwivedi? It now turns out Sunil Kumar was never a journalist with Nav Sanchar Patrika - a magazine for army aspirants. But he did work with the publisher of the magazine at his coaching centre as an English teacher, a job he left six months ago.
Kumar who hails from Dhod village in Sikar, Rajasthan studied in Assam and has held a series of teaching jobs in small town India.
He did work for two schools runs by BJP activists. First in 1998, at Balwant Chirana's Vidya Bharati School from where he was fired, and second in Santosh Ahlawat's Tagore Public School, from where he quit.
His last school job, before the coaching institute was at Raj Public School run by the husband of a Congress councilor from Jhunjhunu.
So it seems Sunil Kumar is neither an RSS activist like the Congress alleged, nor does he have Congress connections - other than the fact that a cousin of his is the PA of Rajasthan Industries Minister Rajendra Pareek. Clearly then, his past may not tell us much about why Kumar chose the shoe over the pen.
