Mumbai: Bring out the bell bottoms, pump up the disco music and prepare for a blast from the past – Jimmy Zhingchak-Agent of Disco is the latest superhero to dance his way into a graphic novel by UTV Spotboy and Virgin Comics.
Filmy clichés abound in this tongue-in-cheek comic series that has Jimmy right out of a 80's Bollywood masala flick.
So you have the quintessential villain Sir John, the old mother a la Nirupa Roy and then you have the dialogues that defined Bollywood in the 70's and the 80's. And best of all, Jimmy's weapons of choice are his disco moves, just like a certain Mithun Chakraborty who has written the foreword.
“We wanted to do a story of a hero and while we created a superhero out of the film industry we realised that we were quite uncannily close to Mithunda,” Chief Operating Officer, UTV Spotboy Motion Pictures, Vikas Bahl said.
And if you think that this one, too, is a spoof like Om Shanti Om then think again, the creators of the comic say that their book does not laugh at Bollywood, but laughs with it.
“While Om Shanti Om was about the film industry, this is Jimmy Zhinchak, where people dance and die on the dance floor, he's a superhero and the jokes have been taken from the industry,” Bahl said.
The graphic novel series will soon hit stands in India. So Superman, Spiderman and the rest of the superheroes better watch out for Jimmy's killer dancing moves.
