New Delhi: The Shiv Sena on Friday clarified that the party was only supporting Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential election and it shouldn't be read as a support for the UPA.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that there is no question of being upset that Sena wasn't invited when Pranab filed his nomination for presidential elections. "Our support is not for the UPA, our support is for Pranab as a candidate," said Raut.
Pranab filed his nomination as UPA's Presidential candidate on Thursday. In a show of strength, all the UPA allies were present, but the Trinamool Congress stayed away as TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee had opposed Pranab's candidature.
And in a sign of changing times, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party were also present.
The NDA stands divided with the Shiv Sena and JD(U) backing Pranab. BJD chief Naveen Patnaik and senior BJP leaders were by PA Sangma's side when he filed his nomination on Thursday.
