New Delhi: It has not been a good start for India at the World Boxing Championships in Milan. Both Indian boxers in the fray went down fighting on the opening day of the tournament.
Asian fly weight Champion Suranjoy Singh was unlucky to lose on a technicality while Manoj Kumar, too, lost a close bout.
Suranjoy, who won India's first Asian Gold medal in 15 years in the 51 kg category, lost his first round bout against Myambayar Tugstsogt of Mongolia.
The bout ended with the score tied 10-10 but the Indian boxer lost on a countback by a point.
Another Indian boxer Manoj Kumar was beaten by Brazil's Carvaho Myke of Brazil in the 64 kg.
The bout between Kumar and Myke was also close with the Brazilian winning by a margin of just one point 5-4.
Beijing Olympic quarter-finalist Jitender Kumar will be in action on Wednesday in the 54kg weight category.
