Man arrested with huge cache of explosives in Surat

Surat: A man was on Thursday arrested with a huge cache of explosives hidden in his house in Umarpada taluka in Surat.

According to police, about 2300 kg of ammonium nitrate, 496 gelatin sticks, 420 metre long fuse wire and 150 electric fuses were seized from house of one Mukesh Vasava of Umejar village in Umarpada taluka. The man was arrested.

The police said that the explosives were hidden in Vasava's house by the owners of a stone quarry, Masri Ahir and Dinesh Ahir.

Though Masri and Dinesh had license for the explosives, the quantity recovered from Vasava's house was far more than the quota allotted to them by the state government, police said.

A search has been ordered for the duo who are on the run. The police said that it suspected them of being involved in illegal mining. Further investigation is on.
