Surat: Deepak Nayak and his family were to leave for Kashmir on Sunday for a summer vacation that they had been planning for long.
But they cancelled the trip at the eleventh hour as the death of four Surat tourists in the Kashmir blast made Nayak change his mind.
"I was worried. Everybody at home insisted that we cancel the trip. But since it's vacation time, I will go to Goa instead of Kashmir," says Nayak.
The blast has unnerved many Kashmir-bound families in Gujarat.
"There are too few security arrangements in Kashmir. At least from my family, no one will ever visit Kashmir again on a vaction," says Navinbhai Jariwala, relative of a victim.
Travel industry estimates say as many as 30,000 Gujarati tourists were to visit Kashmir this summer. From Surat alone, about 150 tourists were set to leave for the valley.
"I have received calls for cancellation of tours to Kashmir. If the Government doesn't take any action, then it will affect tourism in Kashmir," says Director, Delight Holiday, Moshin.
Gujaratis happen to be one of the most travelling communities in India and tourists were only recently beginning to think Kashmir as a holiday destination.
