Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu of the High Court on Friday reserved his order on the bail petition of retired judge TV Chalapati Rao, an accused in the case of cash-for-bail scam involving former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy.
The judge, however, granted bail to G Dasaratharami Reddy and Karnataka MLA TH Suresh Babu, who are also accused in the case.
While granting the bail, the judge directed them to produce two sureties each and to surrender their passports to the lower court.
The High Court has recently granted bail to suspended judges T Pattibhirama Rao, K Lakshminarasimha Rao and D Prabhakar Rao as well as Karnataka legislator G Somasekhara Reddy in the bail scam case.
The court did not agree with the ACB’s contention that the prime accused, Pattabhirama Rao, may tamper with the evidence if released on bail. It also dismissed the ACB’s petition challenging the bail granted by the ACB court to Pattabhirama Rao’s son Ravichandra and a junior lawyer Aditya.
