New Delhi: BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan, who was shot at by his younger brother on Saturday morning, continues to be critical.
His liver is still bleeding and he continues to be on a respirator in the intensive care unit. Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy said Pravin Mahajan, who shot the BJP leader, is "normal" and of "sound mind". The attack was pre-planned, he said.
Pravin's lawyer claimed his client is "mentally ill and the (Mahajan) family knows it".
Roy denied this and said Pravin shot Mahajan due to "personal reasons" and "there was no sudden provocation for his action against his elder brother."
Pravin, 45, was arrested after he surrendered before the police and will be produced before a court on Sunday. "There is nothing to indicate that he was no a man of unsound mind," Roy said.

Pravin shot at Mahajan, 57, thrice with his 9 mm Browning revolver at the BJP leader’s 14th floor apartment in a posh apartment block in Worli at around 8 a.m.
Initial reports said that the two had argued over a property dispute, but another brother, Prakash, denied this. "How can there be a dispute when there is no property," he said.
Pravin, a building contractor, lives in suburban Thane and came to Mahajan’s home in a car, said police. After the incident, he surrendered at the Worli police station and was arrested. A PTI report said Pravin told the police that Mahajan ill-treated and humiliated him.
BJP leader Jayawantiben Mehta, a neighbour of Mahajan, said she heard loud voices from Mahajan's house in the morning. "I was about to take the lift when I saw Mahajan’s wife coming down in the elevator. She was crying and all she could say was that her husband had been shot," said Mehta.
"I saw Gopinath Munde (a senior BJP leader and Mahajan’s brother-in-law) rushing to Mahajan's house. There is usually no security outside Mahajan's house. The securitymen were on the third floor and I don't think they heard anything," she said.
