New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has joined issues with the critics of Madhya Pradesh BJP Government's recommendation for `Surya Namaskar' in schools, saying the yogic exercise is a form of complete workout and it's not associated with any religion.
"Surya Namaskar is not the worship of sun. It is a form of complete workout of body and mind. It is not related to any religion," Ramdev said. His comments came at a time when Team India captain Rahul Dravid has drawn strong criticism for participating in a 'Surya Namaskar' camp recently.
The Madhya Pradesh government had recently ordered holding of mass `Surya Namaskar and Pranayam programme' for schoolchildren on January 25, sparking off wide-spread protests.
"Yoga is not a religion-based tradition. It is a science," the yoga guru said, reacting to the protests. He said wrong notions about yoga were being spread among people.
Ramdev claimed people from all religions participate in his camp and have benefited from yoga. The yoga guru claims to offer 'cure' to hypertension and cancer and 'control' diabetes through the traditional form of exercise.
