Hyderabad: Slain telecom engineer K Suryanarayana's wife Manjula, who attempted suicide on Monday, continued to remain in a critical condition.
Hours before the body of her husband, who was killed by Taliban in Afghanistan, was brought here, Manjula consumed toilet cleaner after a woman, claiming to be her husband's second wife, sought financial assistance from the government to maintain her family.
Manjula, who was shifted to the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology here on May 2, "is still in a critical condition in the intensive care unit," a medical bulletin issued by the institute on Thursday said.
"Blood pressure and pulse are stable. Blood vomiting has stopped. She has developed severe abdominal pain and respiratory distress," it added.
The bulletin further said: "She also has high fever. Her conscious level is slightly better. However, she is unable to talk properly because of vocal chord involvement."
Manjula would later undergo CAT scan of her esophagus and stomach to examine her gastrointestinal tract.
