Hyderabad: The widow Suryanarayana, the Indian engineer who was killed by Taliban in Afghanistan, was shifted to Asian Institute of Gastroenterology from a private hospital.

Manjula tried to kill herself late on Monday evening hours before her husband's body was brought to Hyderabad for last rites.

Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chief gastroentrologist, Asian institute of Gastroentrology says her condition is critical.

When she came to know of a woman claiming to be the second wife of the slain engineer, a depressed Manjula allegedly consumed phenoyl and swooned, police sources said.

She was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment and was in the intensive care unit.

Manjula had consumed about 200 ml of a cleaning chemical, which caused corrosive injury to her gastro track, he said adding her condition would be monitored for the next two days.
