Kerala: A Kerala district court on Wednesday sent a notice to Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha PJ Kurien and five others in connection with the Suryanelli gangrape case, after the survivor filed a fresh petition demanding Kurien be made an accused. A similar attempt by the survivor early in 2013 was shot down by another district court.
The district court will now review the case on the May 29. Kurien will not be required to appear in the court until he is named as an accused.
Kurien had been acquitted of all charges in the case by the Supreme Court of India. The case relates to the rape of a 16-year-old girl of Suryanelli in Idukki District in 1996. The victim, a school girl, was allegedly abducted and taken to various places and sexually exploited by over 40 different persons.
