Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst growing calls for the removal, more trouble is piling on for Rajya sabha deputy chairman PJ Kurien in the Suryanelli gangrape case. Kurien's own party spokesperson PC Chacko has now spoken out against him, saying the Congress party will take a decision on him before the Budget Session. The rape survivor has demanded that Kurien be made an accused in the case.
Chacko's fight with Kurien dates back to the Suryanelli gangrape case of 1996. And Chacko's statement has come days after Kurien openly said the plan to make him an accused in the Suryanelli gangrape case yet again is a political conspiracy. Kurien had said some individuals in the state Congress party were behind the campaign.
Even Defence Minister AK Antony - seen as close to Kurien - has said that Congressmen in Kerala need to mend their ways.
Thus far, the official leadership of the Congress in Kerala including the chief minister had backed Kurien completely. But with the party's official spokesperson coming out against him, the road ahead looks tough for the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman.
