Kochi: A Swedish woman was allegedly molested on Wednesday night by three men in Fort Kochi in Kerala during New Year celebrations.
The 23-year-old woman was part of a group of foreigners who had come to participate in the New Year celebrations.
Some of the youth gathered there allegedly molested her. A case has been booked against three persons, and all three have been arrested.
The woman was with her boyfriend and brother when the incident occurred, police said.
On the basis of their complaint, plainclothes men arrested up Shibu (32), Shihabuddin (26) and Sujith (23).
Last year also, a young tourist, who was with her parents, was molested on the beach.
According to the complaint, the incident took place soon after the burning of a huge effigy of Santa Claus at the beach, as part of the celebrations.
There was a deafening sound of a cracker going off and in the commotion, the incident took place, police said.
About 400 policemen in uniform and at least 40 of them in plainclothes were keeping vigil at the beach.
