Bangalore: Swine flu seems to be spreading rapidly in India with another case testing positive in the Capital on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases to 20.
World Health Orgnisation (WHO) declared that it's spread is inevitable. While Hyderabad was the epicentre of the virus, swine flu is now spreading across the country rapidly. Delhi confirmed one more case on Sunday and Banglore, two more - a mother and daughter duo who flew in on Friday evening from New Jersey in Air France Flight 192.
They have been admitted at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases along with one more suspected case.
"We are tracing the co-passengers of Air France 192 who have traveled in the plane, if they develop any of the symptoms, please check with hospital," said Director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, Bangalore, Shashidhar Buggi.
The Joint Monitoring Committee is going to take stock of the situation. It finished its second round of meetings on Sunday.
It included officials from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the WHO, Ministry of Animal Husbandry, the Ministry of Environment and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to discuss how to step up our defences.
"We have been taking some very important measures and duscussed what we need to do further," said NDMA's Vivek Chabbra.
And the experts say the worst of the flu is yet to come, with rains bringing down temperatures, the virus is expected to spread faster.
"There are chances of the virus to flourish in monsoon as the lower temperatures really help. We should prepare ourselves for a longer fight," said NDMA's J R Bhardwaj.
The Health Ministry is fighting to keep the numbers down. Sources have told CNN-IBN that the Indian government may introduce the much awaited thermal scanners at airports.
