Swine Flu: Docs take to streets to calm Blore

Bangalore: With more than 40 cases of swine flu in the city, people in Bangalore are crowding designated hospitals to get themselves tested and putting a huge strain on the system. A group of doctors has now taken to the streets to spread an important message - 'do not panic'.

Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, Dr Shashidhar Buggy says, "It's very important to clear doubts for the public. One thing that I want to say through the media is that any person who has flu-like symptoms - which is quite common this season - should not go to hospitals and insist on an HINI tests. Meet your own doctor first."

Dr Anil Kumar is another one of the designated 'street doctors' and what makes him unique is that he too suffered from swine flu. Based in Dubai, Dr Kumar contracted the H1N1 virus when he was on vacation in Bangalore, but after just five days of medication, he has joined his fellow doctors in the campaign.

"Panic is killing more people than HINI. That's what is actually happening," says he.

The common view on the streets shows how right the doctors are. People say they don't know much about swine flu and its symptoms.

Awareness is the best vaccine right now and that's what Bangalore's 'street doctors' are saying. But with panic spreading faster than the flu, it looks the message may not reach the people.
