New Delhi: Swine flu panic is gripping on metros after Pune reported country's first swine flu death on Tuesday.

A minor cough and cold is enough for the people to visit a government hospital to get themselves tested for the swine flu.

“I just wanted to check so came here, luckily it is negative,” said 14-year-old Himani Seth from Pune.

But it is not just Pune where people are queuing up at the government hospitals, the swine flu fear has also tightened its grip on Delhi and Mumbai.

The Kasturba Hospital in Byculla saw long queues, with patients taking time off from work and college to get tested for swine flu.

The Government says existing infrastructure is adequate to tackle the surge in numbers but the doctors have a different story to tell.

“Since morning we have received over 102 cases and still there is a long queue,” said Dr RK Sharma from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, Delhi.

With more people flocking in to get tested for the flu, questions are being raised on whether it is time for the private hospitals to be roped in.

“Private hospital and labs can also be given permission if they are Government accredited,” Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Trivedi told CNN-IBN.
