Tokyo, Sydney, Toronto, Panama City: Japan confirmed its first three cases of the new H1N1 influenza strain, commonly known as swine flu, detected at Narita International Airport, the government said on Saturday.
A high-school teacher and two students initially tested positive for A-type influenza after returning from an excursion in Canada on a flight via the US.
They showed symptoms such as high fever and coughing when the quarantine officials inspected their health conditions on the plane before passengers disembarked, the government said.
Australia confirms its first swine flu case
A woman who arrived back in Australia on a flight from Los Angeles to Brisbane last week has been confirmed as the country's first swine flu patient.
Queensland health authorities said the woman tested "weak positive" for the new influenza A (H1N1) virus and has already recovered.
Canada confirms first flu death
Canada on Friday confirmed its first death from the influenza H1N1 flu.
Health officials said the swine flu was the cause of the death of a woman in Alberta province Thursday. Earlier, it was believed that the woman died from other medical reasons April 28.
Panama reports first swine flu case
Panama has reported its fist case of swine flu with detecting the deadly A/H1N1 virus in a young man who had recently returned from the US.
The patient is out of danger and has been sent home, Panama's Health Minister Rosario Turner said Friday, adding that both the infected man and his family have been given anti-virus treatments.
