Pushkar: In the third such incident this month, a 25-year-old foreign tourist alleged rape by a hotel owner in the pilgrim town of Pushkar in Rajasthan on Saturday.

The tourist from Switzerland says the owner of Hotel Nanu Palace, where she was staying, sexually assaulted her a week ago.

She says, “Mr Nanu, the owner of Nanu Palace in the surrounding area of Pushkar, raped me.”

(PTI reports that according to the area’s SP, an FIR was registered under section 376 (rape) of IPC and a police team sent to arrest Rawat). However, police are currently investigating the matter further.

Area SHO Sangaram Singh says, “She says that Nanu raped her a week ago. She did not any lodge any complaint then. We are investigating the case and getting her medical examination done.”

Earlier this month, police had arrested a 35-year-old priest for allegedly molesting a 28-year-old American tourist, right in front of the Papmochni temple in Pushkar.

On December 23, 2007, a British journalist was allegedly raped by the owner of the guesthouse, where she was staying. The Udaipur police arrested the owner after the British High Commission lodged a complaint.

Perhaps it is time now for the state government to seriously consider the formation of a tourism police force.
