newindianexpressExpress News Service

NAGERCOIL: Anti-Koodankulam activists on Friday said  that fuel switching is an option to save the power plant.

Without scrapping the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP), ‘fuel switching’ could be done, using alternative fuel and the same structure could be used to generate electricity,” M G Devasahayam, retired IAS officer and convenor of PMANE expert panel committee, said at a meeting in Kanyakumari.

“The people fear choosing electricity production through nuclear energy. There are many other sources to produce electricity and we could produce more electricity through renewable sources,” he said, adding, “They are saying that they could give 435 mw of electricity, if they start production at the KKNPP now. We could produce more than what they have assured within 6 months to 2 years,” said Devasahayam. Devasahayam also praised the TN government’s stand on KKNPP.
