Rush to finish syllabus in Hyderabad schools

CNN-IBN

Hyderabad's schools are bracing for a long and enforced vacation.

The Sri Krishna Committee report on the need for a separate Telangana state will be out by the end of the year. And the fear is that like December last year, when the Telangana protests disrupted classes because of frequent bandh calls and a breakdown in transport, Hyderabad will be overwhelmed this year too. Schools are racing to complete the academic year well in advance.

Some city schools have even brought forward the Prelims for 12th standard students from January to December. The already stressed out students have to bear the brunt.

"Sometimes they are teaching so fast, we can't even understand. The pace is a problem but we don't have a choice. It does put more pressure," a student said.

Clearly, students and schools would prefer the report to be submitted later, but the Sri Krishna Committee seems on track to present its conclusions on 31st December.

While some students accuse managements of over reacting to a looming threat, others say they might as well be prepared in advance for the inevitable examinations.
