Srinagar: The tainted Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association chief Aslam Goni has been promoted and named the manager of Team India for the South Africa tour. Aslam Goni was named in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association scam, in which officials allegedly embezzled crores of BCCI funds. Team India's tour of South Africa is a one-match tour and the T20 match will be played on Friday.
The BCCI is yet to start an inquiry or call for a probe into the scam. A petition was filed on March 13 in Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking a CBI probe into the multi-crore rupee scam. Avtar Krishan Tickoo and other members of Kashmir Cricket Club filed the petition before the High Court seeking a direction to CBI for registration of FIR and investigation into the financial fraud.
It sought the action against Chairman Aslam Goni, Chief Executive Officer Saleem Khan, Secretary General JKCA and J&K Bank Ashan Ahmed Mirza, through its Chairman.
Union Minister Farooq Abdullah is the President of the JKCA and is on the backfoot in the Jammu and Kashmir cricket scam after CNN-IBN accessed a bank letter that exposed his claim that he had no knowledge of what was happening. An indignant Abdullah rubbished allegations that he was involved in the scam, but the bank letter links him to it.
