Taipei: Even as the troubles in Tibet loom large over China, neighbouring Tibet is boiling over but Taiwan, is in election mode.
Taiwanese are voting to elect a new government and also holding a referendum to defy China and seek a UN membership.
KMT leader and presidential candidate Ma Yaing Jeou is anxious to reassure the public.
"China for Taiwan is the great threat but also presents a great opportunity,” says Jeou.
But its lever his critics in the ruling party wouldn't let go off.
Democratic Progressive Party, Frank Hsieh says, “I want to protect Taiwan, to protect the way of life so that it is not swallowed by China.”
However, what is clear is that most Taiwanese favour the status, as they would like to explore more economic opportunities in china but have only contempt for its politics.
