New Delhi: It was an anxious wait at the Delhi Airport for Ruchi - wife of one of the survivors of Mumbai terror attacks. Amit, a corporate professional from Delhi was recued from the Oberoi hotel on Friday evening and when reunited with the family, emotions overflowed.
“I thank god that he is back,” says Amit’s wife Ruchi Gupta.
An ordeal that lasted almost 48 hours, Amit locked himself in his hotel room. He is among those few lucky people who are able to recount what he went through. A trauma that he also documented through the pictures he clicked while he was inside the hotel.
“There was a lot of smoke because of the explosion, there was a lot of heat and I couldn’t breathe so I had to break the window and stand on the parapet for almost half an hour,” says Amit.
And his fear turned to horror when he heard a knock on his door.
“They knocked on my door and asked for my I-card I gave them mine but when I asked for their I cared they said you either open the door or we will shot you,” he recalls.
“I clicked a lot of photos when we were rescued of the NSG commandos. They came to my room and said that we will start sanitising the hotel, we will start with the 19th floor and I was on the 17th floor and the terrorist on the 18th, so it might take some time,” Amit adds.
Amit's tryst with terror finally ended with a happy reunion with his family.
“We see these things in TV and think it cannot happen to us but it does and I hope it does not happen with anyone,” says Amit.
