Mumbai: A close brush with death at the hands of terrorists has brought an estranged couple together once again.
The night of terror sealed a bond between the medic husband and wife Prashant and Tilu Mangeshkar.
On the fateful night of 26/11 the two along with their 21-year-old daughter Kalinda were at the Taj hotel attending a close friend's cocktail party, where terror struck in the form of men raining bullets.
"The hotel staff screamed -Go! I had my daughter by my hand and I went straight. They fired straight at us but we barely walked a metre and a half and they fired straight at us. Then I turned around and pushed my daughter, and my husband got her. I also called out to everyone for lying low as they were firing at us. One guy behind me did get shot," narrates Dr Tilu Mangeshkar.
"For me this was a terrible time. At 1.30 after the aborted bid of our escape and the flight from the bullets, a different and difficult saga unfolded and I did not believe we would get out of there alive," said Dr Prashant Mangeshkar.
With only each other for company, the doctor couple along with their daughter did what they thought best. They thought that if they could not escape, they would at least help the injured hostages at Taj hotel.
"We examined this guy and we found a big hole in front of his stomach. So we put that back with no gloves at hand, we were forced to use our hands. That was it. We packed it and tied a sheet around it and gave him a pain killer which one of the foreigners had," said Dr Tilu.
Facing terror together, managed to get the couple to forget their plans to separate despite having filed for divorce.
"We have had very difficult times, my wife and I, over the last couples of years. I hope she is listening to me as I speak and bears with me on the issue. Our papers were already in a court of divorce and they are filed for effecting separation. But as this nightmare unfolded, we soon realised how important we were to each other and that has brought us back together," said a teary eyed Prashant Mangeshkar.
