Take legal action against Ashis Nandy for his comments: Mayawati

New Delhi: Slamming sociologist and political psychologist Ashis Nandy for his statement blaming the OBCs, SCs, STs for corruption menace in the country, BSP supremo Mayawati asked for an immediate apology. Condemning the statement, Mayawati said that Nandy should be sent to jail. "Ashis Nandy should be sent to jail after lodging a case against him under SC/ST Act," said Mayawati at a press conference in New Delhi.

Mayawati asked the organisers of Jaipur Literature Festival to throw Nandy out of the fest. However, Nandy also clarified his remarks later in the day. "If people have misunderstood, I apologise. What I said was that corruption of rich people is often overlooked," Nandy said at a press conference. "I want to close this chapter here now," he said.

Nandy's controversial statement was - It is a fact that most of the corrupt come from the OBC and the Scheduled Caste sections, and now the Scheduled Tribes. "The maximum amount of corruption these days is by Dalits, the backward and the oppressed classes," he added.
