Talking films: Book starts dialogue

Mumbai: Books on film stars are dime a dozen. Narendra Panjwani's book, Emotion Pictures-Cinematic Journeys into the Indian Self, is about fans.

Cinema is people's art; a grand conversation between filmmakers and viewers. Panjwani's book is a study of this dialogue-cum-pastime.

"He has looked at the reactions that films have elicited in audiences all over the world," said actor Shashi Kapoor, who launched the book.

"There is a lot to be understood. The 300-odd pages on the book show that there are a lot of fascinating insights that come to the fore when you talk about individual experiences of cinema,” the author said.

The event inspired Bollywood actress Suhasini Mulay to share her experience of cinema when she was just a young star-struck fan.

"The film star asked me don't you want an autograph? I was thinking what will I do with the autograph," she said.

"I want you, I said, and the star happens to be sitting next to me today," she said, pointing towards Kapoor.

"I think we eat, dream, breathe cinema all the time. I’m not sure whether films influence people or people start influencing films. However this book has done a very good job of exactly explaining all these ways,” she added.

So, while we have read many books on the stars here's one that looks at the people who make them shine brighter-us!
