Tamil actors face heat from producers

Chennai: A caravan is one vehicle most actors in cannot do without as they cool off in between shots inside the caravan.

But things are no longer going to be cool this summer for the Tamil actors, the Tamil Film Producer's Council has now decided not to fund the caravans for shoots as part of their cost cutting measures.

And that means that the stars may have to shell out the caravan costs from their own pockets or simply do without it.

“We are looking at cost cutting in films, and so we are looking at the actors to share the expense of the caravan,” says vice-president, Tamil Film Producer's Council, Anbalaya Prabhakar,

The rent for a caravan ranges from Rs 3000 to 5000 and on an average a producer spends about 10 lakh rupees on a caravan, including the fuel and driver cost.

However the producers have decided no to bear those expenses anymore.

Stars on the other hand have no intentions to do without the caravans but have in turn told the producers to cut the caravan expenses from their salaries.

Says president, South Indian Artistes Association, “Actors earn enough to afford a caravan.”

It seems like beating the heat is going to be a little expensive for the actors this summer. But in an industry where the actors call the shots, will the producers still be able to refuse them anything-even a caravan?
