Chennai: 2006 saw the rise of many actresses in Tamil cinema. As a result, the then reigning actresses are now losing the top spot.
Trisha, one of the leading ladies of Tamil cinema, who has had just a couple of hits in 2006 and and is now threatened by the new pack.
Trisha was Miss Chennai in 2000 before she shot to fame in 2005 and became the top actress in the Tamil film industry.
She indeed has come long way, but with the rise of new stars like Asin, Trisha seems to be losing her hold on the number one position. So how is she dealing with the competition?
"Competition is good. It makes life more interesting and it's always been there. It compels you to do better," says she.
We have heard those lines before, but 2006 hasn't been a very bright year for Trisha, with just a couple of releases in Tamil and three in Telugu.
"I was concentrating more on Telugu films and a few of my films got pushed to 2007. You'll see lot more of me now," she asserts confidently adding that even though Sainikudu didn't do well, Stalin was a hit.
"I have had both hits and flops. Everyone does."
Trisha will now been seen in Bheema with Vikram and Kireedom with Ajith but it's the younger lot who have grabbed bigger films like Shivaji and Dsaavatharam.
Will Trisha be able to climb back to the top spot again? It seems one will have to wait and watch.
