New Delhi: Veteran Tamil and Telugu actor Shobhan Babu passed away in Chennai on Thursday due to a cardiac arrest.
Shobhan Babu, born Uppu Shobana Chalapathi Rao, and former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa had acted in several successful movies in the 60s and 70s.
One of the best known faces of South Indian cinema, the 71-year-old actor – who became a star with the 1965 Telugu film Veerabhimanyu - died at Chennai's Apollo Hospital.
Shobhan Babu was honoured several Nandi Awards by the Andhra Pradesh Government and had even won Filmfare awards.
The actor made his debut with mythological films like Bhakta Shabari and Sree Sita Rama Kalyanam in 1960 and continued to act in Tamil and Telugu films for almost three decades till his retirement in 1997.
Shobhan Babu is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
