Chennai: Blogging in regional languages is slowing becoming poular and nearly 4,000 Tamil blogs are thriving side by side with English ones on the Internet..
People who blog in Tamil are also conducting workshops to educate people and put more blogs in Tamil on the net.
One such blogger is Poorna Rajaraman who has found freedom on the Internet. She loves to write Tamil poetry and she finds her own blog the best place to showcase her talents.
"There are no sites in the world where a person who doesn't know a single word in English can go and do anything. Our language should also be included. There is a lot of scope for Tamil development on the net," says Poorna Rajaraman.
And that's precisely why bloggers associations in Tamil Nadu are now conducting workshops to encourage blogging in Tamil and the results are surprising.
"Now take for example this website. It has scathing political commentary that one would never see in either the media or from any resident of this state. We tried to contact the author of this blog to tell us why he used the Internet for his criticism. The answer was an eye-opener - he didn't want to be seen on TV but he certainly wanted to tell other people about what's wrong with the system."
Srinivasan, a resident of Cuddalore, already has a city-based English blog. He now wants to put out a blog in Tamil so more people will be enlightened about issues facing the town.
"The Collector Mr Gagandeep Singh Bedi is a regular reader of our blog. We usually put up the small issues on the blog. He will read it and immediately corrective actions would be taken," Srinivasan says.
With fierce Tamil pride now embracing technology, the language Bharathiar once wove magic with, it is all set to make magic on the web.
