Chennai: He's good at being bad and commercial success of films like Gilli and Anniyan is proof of the fact.
Actor Prakash Raj is not only the most sought after 'Bad Guy' in the Tamil film industry, but also its most expensive one.
And even though he pockets an average of Rs 1 crore per film — almost four times more than what an average villain earns in the industry— Raj would beg to differ.
"Well, I think I'm underpaid," is all he has to say.
So what makes him tick as the 'bad guy'?
"Probably my intensity. I'm an intense person when it comes to my roles. My scripts define my role, what I have to perform and people think I am good at being intense," says he.
And the intensity spills over in his writing as well. Raj has written Mani Ratnam's Iruvar and also scripted the characters of many others in films like Mozhi and Arindum Ariyamalum.
"I don't look at it as proving a point. it's just a journey and I just enjoy my journey. I wish I get more challenging roles and for me, it's like 'do I have the talent to surrender to my roles and become more beautiful through them'," says he.
And this bad guy is never out of work.
"I am doing a film called Kanchipuram, the confessions of the first communist of India. Then I am doing Bheema with Vikram then the remake of the Telugu film, Bommarillu," says he.
Now here's an actor who's made the best of being bad.
