Chennai: The Tamil film industry was shut down on Monday due to a day-long hunger strike in Chennai to protest against the service tax levied by the Centre. They are demanding the tax be scrapped.
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth also gave his support to the protest. "If there's a tough law to book tax defaulters, so much of money could be mobilised," Rajinikanth said.
Meanwhile, film and television shooting has been suspended for the day and theatres will remain shut till Monday evening.
