Tamil Nadu: 19 arrested for conducting child marriages

Dharmapuri: The district administration and police have stopped conducting of child marriages and 19 persons including four grooms were arrested in this regard at H Pudhupatti village, 60 kms from Dharmapuri on Wednesday. Parents of four minor girls of the village have arranged marriage to their daughters to conduct on Wednesday.

Based on information, the Village Administrative Officer P Kathiravan lodged a complaint with police. A team of Revenue Officials and police rushed to the spot and rescued the minor brides from the early marriage attempt and stopped the marriages.

Based on VAO`s complaint police registered cases under Provision of Child, Women Act against 19 persons and arrested them police said.
