Namakkal (Tamil Nadu): A Class 12 student was arrested for shooting a sports goods sales woman at Tiruchongode near here, who had allegedly scolded him for not buying anything even after showing him all the bats stored in the shop, police said on Friday.

The woman, Lokanayaki (53) was admitted to Erode government hospital with injuries, police said.

Police said Lokanayani and the 16 year old boy, Ranjith, had an altercation last week when he had gone to the shop and asked her to show all the bats stored there but did not buy one.

This had angered Lokanayaki and she scolded him. Ranjith visited the shop again on Thursday and asked her to show all the bats and when Lokanayani started showing the bats, he pulled out a revolver and shot at her.

She was injured on her back, police said.

Local people overpowered him and handed over to police, they said.
