Madurai: A mentally ill woman was reportedly raped by a person posing as a coffee seller at Madurai railway station early Wednesday, police said. The 32-year-old woman was waiting with her mother to board a train to Elanchi village after treatment in Madurai when the man approached them and offered her mother coffee laced with sedatives.
The mother soon swooned after which he took the woman to a deserted area and raped her, they said. The mother soon came to her senses and both of them caught the train and left.
But unable to bear the pain, the woman informed her mother and they got down at Tirumangalam station instead of Elanchi. An ambulance was called and she was admitted to a hospital. Police have launched a hunt to nab the man.
