New Delhi: Even as Taslima Nasreen flits state to state seeking protection from Muslim protest, the CPM is looking more isolated than ever.
Its ally in the Left front government in West Bengal, the CPI, has now said that the manner in which Taslima was shunted out of Bengal was a serious blot on the government.
“I am actually regretting the whole incident. I am also not appreciating the role of the government. I do not think that they have been on the right path,” says MP, CPM. Gurdas Dasgupta.
Muslim groups on the other hand are determined to carry on their campaign against Taslima. They say she should be forced to leave India.
"A 100 per cent of Muslims will protest against Taslima wherever she is. She wil have to leave the country," says MP, MIM, Asaduddin Owaisi.
Ironically, while state governments from west Bengal to Rajasthan try and find ways to protect Taslima, India's most eminent painter MF Husain is still forced to live away from India because of the many cases against him.
Little attempt is being made to protect Husain from the forces that oppose his right to paint.
Taslima, MF Husain, The Satanic Verses- in India religious sentiment clearly overrides freedom of expression.
