Jaipur: The Income Tax department has seized Rs 10 crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from a financial broker in the city, a top IT official said on Wednesday.
Income Tax officials found the money when raided two residential buildings and an office complex of the broker on Tuesday, saod Additional Director of Income Tax Prasannjeet Singh.
"We have seized Rs 10 crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from the premises of the financial broker," he said. "The amount of cash seized by the department is the biggest so far in the state," Singh said.
The department had earlier seized Rs 9.35 crore in cash from a jeweller in Jaipur, he said.
The broker had also admitted to have undeclared income of nearly Rs 23 crore and had agreed to pay the tax on it, the IT Additional Director said. "Other documents related to broker's properties are being examined," he said.
