Sri Nagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government is trying it's best to woo tourists back to the state.
Government's efforts might get a boost with the state's first luxury car rental starting it's operations.
Most tourist taxis are always idle in Kashmir, but things will soon be set into motion.
It will be made possible because of a new car rental service which promises to revolutionise travel in the state.
Al Khuddam car rental offers tourists a choice between low and high end luxury cars. Tourists can either rent a chauffer driven car, or drive the rented car themselves.
The rental service management is touting this, as a much needed change in Kashmir.
"This is a tourist state and I feel since the last four or five years we are lacking in proper tourist transport. This is a ‘rent a cab’ scheme, which is a first rent a car scheme in the state," says Managing Director of Al Khuddam Rent a Car, Feroz Ahmed.
"And in the near future we have Mercedes not e class or S class but C Class definitely."
Tourism is Kashmir's main industry and it's been affected this year after the grenade attacks. So, even the Tourism department is eagerly welcoming any such initiatives.
"I think its some thing very essential something that was required in Kashmir, I think what a tourist requires is good transport facility, comfortable, reliable and safe transport and I think we have that in Kashmir now," says Joint Director of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez.
There were lots of things that the Kashmir tourism industry lacked. One of them was transportation, but with this luxury car rental some of those problems may be solved.
