Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has allegedly fired twenty employees for providing fake certificates of previous employment by bogus companies.
It seems that TCS wants to set an example to fraudsters and they feel the best way to do this is to get stricter about the people they employ.
“Yes, the number is around 20, that's the number we have found at this point of time where there have been different kind of things that are not matching with what they have stated in their resume with what they actually have,” says HR Head, Ajoyendra Mukherjee.
He adds, “Maybe it's the experience, maybe it's the reference, maybe it's the certificates that they've given and we're taking very strict action against that.”
CNBC-TV18 learns that certificates from bogus companies are quite rampant. Not only are such fake certificates available for a meagre Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, these bogus companies even have people who answer calls and verify information during background checks.
IT companies are now focusing on a more thorough background screening, including field checks on companies that aren't in their database.
